SMALL and CHEAP wedding ideas?

Monday, September 28th, 2009
sokkermum asked:

We want to get married on a beach with just 10 or so people, but all the wedding planning books and sites I’ve found are for big weddings… we want to keep it really simple and intimate and I’m having a hard time thinking of things that we could do for a reception, and ways to make the ceremony special (but not cheesy). We will probably be getting married on a small island with his dad presiding, and I don’t really want to deal with bridal parties and showers. Does anyone have any ideas or know of sites that could help us figure things out?

Personalized Bridal Invitation

Sarah Porter asked:

Personalized Bridal Invitation

If you’re the maid of honor, you don’t just have to walk down the aisle with the bride. You also have the responsibility for not only sending out personalized bridal invitations but for planning the entire bridal shower. That may seem like a great deal of work but the hardest part is going to be choosing the right theme for the event. Here are some pointers that might make planning the party and choosing the right bridal wedding easier.

Bridal Invitation & Themes: The Lingerie Invitation

If you want to throw a bridal shower and send shower invitations that’s a bit more unique and that is definitely only for the girls then a lingerie theme can be the perfect choice. First, you’ll want to pick an evening for the event. You might even want to ask everyone to wear their favorite sleepwear. Because the idea of lingerie is to feel sexy and luxurious, make sure you carry that idea forward with your refreshments, too. Serve chocolate covered strawberries, Godiva hot chocolate and other indulgent treats.

Additionally, all of the gifts should be lingerie or similar items so make sure you choose bridal invite that convey the theme. You might also want to include a note about the theme on the Lingerie Bridal Showers invitations with any special instructions. Be sure to include a contact number on those bridal invitations party so guests can call with their questions.

Around the House Theme for Custom Bridal Invitations

Another interesting theme choice for your party and your bridal wedding invitations is an around the house party. Basically, furnishing the home with everything the bride-to-be needs is the big theme here. Keep the refreshments fun and simple – deli trays work well. You can also play some fun games. Divide the guests into teams and give each team an assortment of interior decorating magazines then ask them to cut out photos and paste them on poster board to create what they think would be the bride-to-be’s dream home. Then let the bride-to-be choose the winning team.

For a fun way to work with the gifts, assign each guest a different room in the house. You could, for example, assign one guest the bathroom and another gets a gift for the kitchen. The bridal invitation shower cards should, of course, match the theme. Be sure to include any details about gift assignments on the cards, too.

Around the Clock Theme & the Bridal Invite

While this theme seems pretty straightforward, you can be a little creative. One idea is to assign each guest a certain time of day and let them purchase gift based around that time of day. For example, if you assigned someone noon, they might purchase a sandwich maker or a gift certificate for lunch at a wonderful restaurant.

In terms of decorations, everything would be focused around clocks and time but maybe also add a line such as “Love lasts forever.” Just make sure you choose appropriate printed bridal invitations for whatever theme you choose.

Bridal Shower Games to Liven Up the Party

Wednesday, February 13th, 2008
Thomas Choo asked:

l shower is a chance for the ladies in the future bride’s life to honor her with a get-together that includes good food, fun and games. Games at bridal shower usually bond ladies together, or complete a task for the future bride.

A game that serves as an ice breaker is always a fun game to start the party. One game you can play is called the Name Tag Game. In this game, the hostess writes the name of each one of the guests along with a word related to marriages like veil, groom, etc on a name tag. The rule of the game is that you are not permitted to say the word on your name tag or else you lose your name tag to the person that got you to say the word.

If you win other name tags, you are not to say any of the words on either your name tag or any of the others. There’s typically a time limit for this game and the person who has the most tags when time runs out is the winner.

The Purse Game is another game at bridal showers, where the hostess lists down items likely to be in a ladies’purse. These items are assigned points from 1-5 depending on the uniqueness of the item. Car keys could be a 1 on the scale, and an eyelash curler a five. The hostess might also give 10 bonus points for the girl who can produce the most outrageous item from her purse.

Another variation of this game is to have an inventory of items and call out the items. The first lady to find each item and hand it to the person judging the game wins one point. After the complete list has been finished, the lady with the most points is announced the winner.

The Television Couple Game is yet another bridal shower game. The hostess will read out the first names of a TV couple and the guests try and guess the last name of the couple. Some example clues with the answers are George and Jane Jetson, and Al and Peg Bundy. One point may be awarded for each correct answer or a point system may be established to award more points to more obscure references.

Another game could be a simple lucky draw game. The hostess may purchase some cheap gifts and ask each player to fill out an envelope with their name and address to go into the draw. The hostess then picks out a name for each prize. This may be a fun game as it offers the guests an opportunity to win a prize and it helps the bride as she will be able to use the envelopes to send out thank you cards.

To encourage guests to interact, the Who Am I game is played. A picture is pinned to the back of every guest, and the point of the game is to ask Yes or No questions to other guests to ascertain the picture on your back. At the end of the party, each guest takes a guess at who is depicted in the photograph on their back.

For the Wedding Jumble game, the hostess will prepare an inventory of words related to a marriage day like toast, limo, receptions, and promises. Next the hostess will scramble each word so the letters are out of order and supply each guest with a copy of the scrambled words. The guest will be given time to unscramble the words and the individual that unscrambles the most words wins. If more than one person gets all the words correct then the individual that did so in the fastest time is the winner.

The Wedding Day Obstacle Course is another game that may truly help out the bride. In this game, the guests are timed on how fast they finish a certain task, for example wrapping gifts. Not only is this a game that is both fun to look at and take part in but it also helps the bride to finish some of the jobs on her list.

All these games are a large amount of fun at a bridal shower and they inspire the guests to interact with each other in an informal atmosphere. These games can also help relatives get to know each other better, which is useful particularly if the bride and grooms’ families do not know one another well.
