My Dad is a painful memory of my past. Do I invite him to my wedding ?

My father is an alcoholic person who only brought pain and sadness to our family. My parents had an awful divorce 10 years ago. My brother lives with my dad, so if I invite only him, he won’t go because of my father. If I don’t invite neither my brother nor my dad, my mom won’t go because of my brother.
However, my mom already said that she will not sit on the same table as my dad, in case he’s invited.

This is so confusing ! Please help !

Another point to consider is that I decided that I will walk down the aisle by myself. If he’s invited and goes to the party, he will be for me just like any other guest. It sounds bitter, but even 10 years later I can barely look at his face. In the other hand I’d be self conscious if I don’t invite him at all to my wedding.

Am I contradicting myself ? Did anybody go through a similar situation ?
This has been harder to decide than the gown of my dreams !

Wedding crisis- keeping everyone happy?

Monday, September 28th, 2009
tilly asked:

My boyfriend and are seriously discussing marriage, though we haven’t told our parents yet. If we do get married, I don’t know how to balance everybody’s desires when it comes to the wedding.

I’ve always dreamed about eloping to Vegas. I like the idea of it being just the two of us. He wants a “real” wedding, with friends and family present, a reception, etc. So does my mother. My father wants to walk me down the aisle, but he won’t go to a reception that my mother is at (my mother went through a period where she was a very violent and dangerous alcoholic, and he shakes and freaks out when he sees her now). So my father wants us to have a small initial ceremony he can be at, and then have a big grand one for my mother’s family.

So how do we do this? 3 weddings seems excessive. The Vegas thing means a lot to me, and it’s the only one I really like, so I don’t want to give that up. Any advice?

Any cheap ideas for a wedding in Fall 2009?

Derricks Angel asked:

My fiance and I are having our wedding in October 2009 and are using persimmon (redish/orange) and gold as our two main fall colors with hints of brown and greens. We want our wedding to be very fallish so we have already bought silk leaves (which will be used on each side of the aisle and on our tables at the reception) and have ideas of what we want for our centerpieces (floating candles). His aunt is making our wedding cake and my church is preparing the meal (traditional Thanksgiving meal) so these things are covered. Our favors…we have no idea what to do as we are having 150 guests to make favors for. We know we don’t want to use any food products so maybe candles or something. Anyways, if you have any simple but elegant ideas please let me know. I can’t wait to hear from all of you. P.S. Incase this matters my dress is ivory and my bridesmaids are persimmon. My fiance is wearing an ivory tux and his men are wearing brown tuxes.
