As I wrote to another bride:

“Don’t have a big wedding. Get married at the courthouse.

Click on your state for details. Phone numbers for the courthouses will be at the bottom of your state’s page. Call your local courthouse to set up a date/time for your wedding.

    Wear clothing you already own.

Invite two friends or family members along to serve as witnesses. Perhaps one can bring along his/her camera, so that you will have a few photos of the occasion?

Serve cake and fruit punch (or cake and coffee, or cake and champagne) at home, immediately following your courthouse ceremony. The cake does not need to be 3-feet tall. You can purchase a sheet cake at the local grocery store bakery . . . or bake a small cake yourself. Invite friends and family to stop by your home for cake and punch. Verbal invites are fine for this informal, open house celebration.”

If you have the money to do more than I suggested above, great! See the budget bride’s bio here:
Be sure to check out the tips at the very bottom of the page.

Marriage license from the county clerk. Get married by a justice of the peace. Have a nice dinner afterward, just you, your spouse and the JP.
Should come in under $200. And whatever you want to spend on rings.

    Good luck!

How about just going to the courthouse or having a private ceremony in your church on May 30th and then when you guys are in a better financial situation have your dream ceremony.

Get a JP and have it in someones backyard. See if people in your family can bring a dish of food. Maybe a potluck type thing. Look on Craigslist.com for wedding things like a dress, photographer, etc. For flowers, just go to the supermarket on the day of and get a nice bunch of flowers. See if anyone you know is good at baking cakes, or sewing, or photos. Also see if there is anything you can borrow to use. Hope this helps! Good luck!

Wear simple clothes without going the whole gown and tux route.A pretty dress and a nice suit is fine. Or you can go even more casual and wear a summer dress and he can wear khakis and a shirt.

Have a simple reception in someones yard in the evening. You can pick up trays of fruit, veggies, little sandwiches and the like at Costco for a reasonable price.

Avoid liquor or keep it to beer and boxed wine. Bar service adds a lot to the cost of a wedding.
