HELP! Help! Help ME! Need your thoughts, Please?

I recently just got engaged to the man of my dreams but now planning this wedding is stressing me out lol

So far, we’ve decided to have the actual ceremony at the Courthouse. I currently don’t have a relationship with my family so I really don’t have anyone to invite except like 3 people lol so that’s going save us some money there.

Then for the reception, we wanted to do a Backyard BBQ. My fiances’ aunt is willing to let us use her backyard. We live in an apartment now and there’s no room for a party. Plus his aunt has a pool! So, I figured we could have: Hamburgers, Cheeseburgers and Hot dogs. Steamed Crabs (Maybe). But then we would also have pasta salad, potato salad, broccoli salad along with chips and dip and things like that. But should I throw another meat in there, like chicken or something?

Then for desert, I was thinking about getting a wedding cake, salt water taffy, fudge, jelly belly jelly beans and fishers popcorn.

We will have a mixture of adults and kids, so I am trying to make sure all guests will be happy.

Oh. I almost forgot about the drinks lol. I am thinking that we should get Jose Cuervo Tequila (me and the groom like this ;-) ) but then also some Bacardi Rum, Captain Morgan and then 2 Types of wine. Probably Arbor Mist Strawberry (My Favorite) and Skip Jack or something like that. Then I also thought about getting beer. But should I get a KEG? Also have coke, diet coke and such.

We’re getting married on 8/9/10 but the reception won’t be until 8/28/09. I’m figuring no more than 150 (and that’s overestimating alot lol) people should attend. But I’d rather be way over in my estimates than way off.

Also, how much food should I buy? Is there a rule of thumb on this?

Any and all ideas are welcome.

Thanks everyone ;-)
Juice Boxes! Awesome Idea. I didn’t even think of those.

See, I thought we needed another meat too. I’d love to do crabs but not everyone likes picking crabs.

Will have to look into vegetarian options too.
Keep em coming!! Love all the ideas and suggestions so far! Thanks guys!

I would also suggest getting champagne. It doesn’t need to be expensive. Also, I would suggest adding in a chicken option and a vegetarian option, just in case people don’t eat red meat. Also, I think you should get fun juice boxes for the kids. (Like those KOOL-Aid Jammers or whatever)

Yes I would have chicken too.

    Drinks: 150 people. 100 people
    Rum 6 bottles 4 bottles
    Whiskey 6 — 4
Wine 1 case per hundred people
Beer 1/2 barrel per 150 people.

Now this is just an estimate, this also depends on how much your guest like . Rum, whiskey wine and beer.

This is part of a chart the venue gave us for our sons wedding.

You’ll have to guess on the amount of Coke to purchase.

And don’t forget Tea Coffee. and juices.

Each guest usually eats about 6oz of meat. But if you have a variety of meats, along with salads. and such you should be fine with everything you mentioned.

You figure 2 pieces of meat per person.

might want to do a buffet style meal, have fruit and veggie platters for non-meat eaters.
you can also have a variety of cookies and squares on the dessert table.
kabobs are fun and easy to make

150 people at someones house for a picnic type reception? I think that is way too many and not really reasonable. For the same amount of money you could have had 50 to 75 people for a real reception.
