Did anyone else suddenly lose their dream venue?

I had my ceremony and reception site (same location) all picked out. I am absolutely in love with them and they are perfect in every way…perfect size, location, price, atmosphere, and so on. I couldn’t believe I lucked out and found this place. But since this is an unusual venue and they don’t do a ton of rentals/weddings, they don’t take reservations super far in advance. So even though I talked to the owners and they said it’s fine for me to get married there on my date, I couldn’t officially reserve it yet bceause they don’t take reservations before 4 months prior to the event. Well, I just got a call saying they have decided to go through the process of changing ownership. The new owners arae changing the venue into something else. It might still be possible for me to have a ceremony there, but probably not a reception. (And they won’t even know that for a few more months.)

I am so disappointed because I was really looking forward to this place. And now, since I thought I already had a location, I have no venue and many other places are booked. I know it will work out and I’ll find a way and still have an awesome wedding, but it’s a downer. Just curious if anyone else suddenly “lost” their dream venue.

Oh no! That’s so horrible and it’s not like there is really any fault on anyone’s side so no person to really blame it on (which I’ll admit, if something goes wrong I want to be able to be mad at someone). I haven’t had that problem personally but can imagine it would be amazingly upsetting. I’ll hope that you can have your wedding there (if you still want it!) and maybe your reception in the bargain (high hopes) and if all else fails that you find somewhere amazing to have both the wedding and reception. Who knows, the new owners may be cool and it will all just fall into place.

While this has never personally happened to me, I’m sorry that you’re having to deal with all of the extra stress. I know that when you have a vision in your head of how things are going to be and then suddenly it’s forced to change, it’s a bit jarring and definitely dissappointing.

If they aren’t even going to know for a few months what is going on I would just cut your losses and start ‘re-planning’ with a new location. I don’t know how far out you are from your date, but like you said I know venues book up quick! Just maybe taker this chance to try and find something you’ll love even more, and try not to compare it to your previous site.

Best of luck and I hope you find a beautiful venue!

A friend of mine’s brother’s reception area burned down literally weeks before their wedding. Luckily, the reception was being held at a swanky country club and the club paid for their deposit at another hall.

    Good luck!
